What equipment is needed to produce shows with make.tv?
Make.tv supports the use of any number of live cameras. Each camera must be attached to a standard, commercially available computer. For more complex productions, having one or two additional computers at hand for video and sound control is advised. Connecting the equipment with cables is not necessary as long as each computer has Internet access. The individual video signals converge in the make.tv Studio and can be centrally controlled. For simple broadcasts with only one camera, a single PC with a webcam will suffice.

Where can shows produced with make.tv be watched?
Producers can broadcast their shows on their own webpages or on existing online communities and social networks. The web-based player can be integrated into any Internet page.

How is make.tv different than Youtube?
make.tv is a service that can be used to produce new video content. The content can be viewed live and/or as a recording. Youtube is a platform where existing video content produced by other means can be uploaded. make.tv will provide a feature to automatically transfer make.tv-produced shows to the Youtube platform in an upcoming version.

Can make.tv shows be broadcast on conventional television?
Generally there are no technical hurdles that would prevent a make.tv show from being broadcast by classical means such as cable or satellite TV. The interactive components of the show, however, could not be utilized. As such, make.tv is specialized in formats that can be produced and broadcast on the Internet.

Is make.tv only for professional users?
No. Every creative internet user can operate the make.tv Studio. The free basic version of make.tv is enough to get started and numerous tutorial videos are available to demonstrate and explain the features. Producing video content by traditional means is more complex as the video from the camera must first be transferred to a computer, edited with an additional program, and finally converted in a time-consuming process before it can be uploaded to the Internet. None of these steps is necessary with make.tv. The captured video signal is immediately broadcast and recorded on the Internet.
Can only live broadcasts be produced or is video on demand also possible?
Both are possible. Every broadcast can be recorded and made available for video on demand. The live broadcast function can be completely disabled if desired. In this case, the show can be produced on make.tv and released later.

Are there other services available that compare to make.tv?
We are not aware of any comparable service at this time. There are some platforms available where live broadcasts from a webcam or mobile phone are possible. These platforms are, however, not suitable for the production of creative TV formats. They are aimed at private users who enjoy broadcasting their webcams on the Internet. Make.tv is the first web-based service that supports any number of cameras, interactive elements and various levels of video quality.

What does make.tv cost?
The basic version of make.tv is free and allows a maximum 100 viewers to tune in to a live show. A recorded show, however, can have an unlimited number of viewers. For more live viewers, a monthly fee of 10 Euro is charged. Additional fee-based services will be introduced towards the end of the year. Until then, professional and heavy use of make.tv will be negotiated on an individual basis.

What kind of Internet connection is necessary to produce shows on make.tv?
An upload speed of approximately 100 KB/s is necessary to ensure sufficient quality. This speed is typically available with a standard 6 Mbps connection. For higher quality and more cameras, a better connection is necessary. Through the internet-based and centralized design of make.tv, it is easily possible to combine several Internet connections or to produce from various locations, each with its own internet connection.
